Kenya, May 29, 2026 -The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Kenya Power employee and an alleged accomplice over claims of soliciting and receiving a bribe to reconnect electricity to a residential property.
In a statement on Friday, the commission said the arrests followed a complaint lodged on May 28 by a resident whose electricity supply had reportedly been disconnected two days earlier.
According to EACC, investigations established that the suspect, identified as Gerald Nyaoke, a technician attached to the Kenya Power Donholm Office, allegedly demanded Sh30,000 from the complainant in exchange for restoring electricity.
“Investigations established that the suspect, Gerald Nyaoke, a technician attached to the Kenya Power Donholm Office, allegedly demanded Kes 30,000 from the complainant in exchange for restoring power supply,” the commission said.
The anti-graft agency said detectives mounted an operation after receiving the complaint and monitored interactions between the complainant and the suspects before effecting the arrests.

“Following the complaint, EACC detectives mounted an operation that enabled them to monitor and document interactions between the complainant and the suspects, culminating in the arrest after the alleged bribe exchange,” the statement added.
The two suspects were escorted to the Integrity Centre for processing and further investigations.
The commission reiterated its commitment to combating corruption and urged members of the public to report incidents of bribery and abuse of office.
The arrests come amid increased scrutiny of public service delivery agencies as anti-corruption authorities intensify efforts to crack down on bribery and extortion targeting wananchi seeking essential services.
