DJIBOUTI, 6 November 2026 Two Djiboutian state agencies on Thursday signed a partnership agreement to clear stormwater drains in several neighbourhoods of the capital to reduce the risk of flooding.
The agreement was signed by the National Office of Water and Sanitation (ONEAD) and the Urban Rehabilitation and Social Housing Agency (ARULoS), represented by their directors general Mohamed Fouad Abdo and Abdourahman Ali Ahmed, the state news agency ADI reported.
The ceremony at the Ministry of Urban Development was jointly presided over by Urban Development Minister Amina Abdi Aden and Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Livestock Minister Radwan Abdillahi Bahdon.
Under the agreement, clearing works will be carried out in neighbourhoods 3, 4, 5 and 6 of Djibouti City to restore drainage capacity, limit standing water and prevent flooding that threatens residents and homes, ADI said.
Authorities said the initiative is part of government efforts to improve stormwater management and make urban infrastructure more resilient to extreme weather.
ADI did not give the cost of the works or when they would begin.
