July 1, 2026 - Amref Health Africa convened a high-level youth dialogue bringing together young leaders from Wajir County and members of the technical working group to strengthen youth-led efforts aimed at ending female genital mutilation (FGM) and other harmful practices affecting girls and young women.
The dialogue provided a platform for open and meaningful discussions on the health, protection, and human rights implications of FGM.
Young participants emphasized that the practice denies girls their dignity, education, well-being, and future opportunities, reaffirming their commitment to championing the protection of girls' rights and promoting positive social norms within their communities.
The youth leaders recognized their critical role as advocates and agents of change, pledging to amplify evidence-based messages that encourage the abandonment of harmful practices while advancing the protection, education, and empowerment of girls.
The dialogue also highlighted the importance of meaningful youth participation, community ownership, cultural sensitivity, and sustained partnerships in driving lasting behavioural and social change.
