MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education today announced the results of the Grade 12 national examination, with more than 40,000 students passing.
The Ministry said 44,330 students were registered for this year’s examination, while 42,916 students actually sat for it. Of those who took the examination, 24,407 were boys and 18,509 were girls.
The results show that 40,037 students passed, while 2,879 students failed, meaning that 92.81 percent of those who sat for the examination were successful.
The examination was administered across six federal member states, 58 districts and 158 examination centres.
Top Three Students
First place went to Mohamed Isse Dahir of Howlwadaag School in Banadir Region.
Second place went to Farxiyo Farah Omar of Ahmed Binu Hambal School in Jubaland.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education said 70 students had their examinations cancelled, while 3,809 individual subjects were cancelled, with some students having between one and three subjects cancelled.
State Minister for Education Nuura Mustafa said students whose subjects were cancelled would be reassessed, depending on the nature of the cancellation applied to their examinations.
“If an examination was cancelled, they will return for assessment and retake the examination,” Nuura Mustafa said.
This year’s examination marks the 12th national examination administered by the Federal Government of Somalia since national examinations were reintroduced in 2015, following the collapse of Somalia’s central government in 1991.
This year’s results come as the number of students sitting for the national secondary school examination continues to increase each year, as more students seek to progress to university education.
