UK , August 15 ,2026 - Aston Villa have moved quickly in the race for Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki after Paris Saint-Germain's proposed move for the Japan international dramatically collapsed.
Villa have now made a formal approach to Parma and are prepared to match the conditions of the agreement that had been negotiated with PSG, with the package understood to be worth around €35 million including add-ons. Talks between Aston Villa, Parma and Suzuki's representatives are underway.
The development represents a major change in the situation surrounding the highly rated goalkeeper. PSG had been closing in on Suzuki and had reportedly agreed a deal with Parma worth approximately €35 million, with a long-term contract also discussed for the Japanese international.
However, that transfer unexpectedly collapsed after PSG pulled out amid disagreements over additional demands and commissions from Suzuki's camp. Reports from France and Italy subsequently confirmed that the proposed move was no longer going ahead.
Aston Villa seize the opportunity#
Villa's interest in Suzuki is not new.
The Premier League club had previously identified the 23-year-old as a potential target amid uncertainty surrounding Emiliano Martínez's future. Suzuki's performances for Parma and Japan had already attracted significant attention from European clubs, with Aston Villa among those monitoring his situation.
The collapse of the PSG deal has now given Villa an opportunity to act.
Rather than starting negotiations from scratch, Villa are reportedly prepared to match the financial conditions PSG had agreed with Parma, making the €35 million package the basis of the current discussions.
Suzuki has emerged as one of the most highly regarded young goalkeepers in European football.

Born in the United States and raised in Japan, he developed through the Urawa Red Diamonds academy before establishing himself in Europe. After moving to Sint-Truiden in Belgium, he joined Parma and quickly became an important part of their squad.
His performances for Japan have further enhanced his reputation, particularly during the 2026 World Cup, where he attracted interest from several major European clubs.
At 23, Suzuki also fits Villa's desire to build for the future while maintaining competition for the goalkeeper position.
The potential arrival of Suzuki is also closely connected to Emiliano Martínez's uncertain future.
Martínez remains one of Villa's most important players, but his name has repeatedly appeared in transfer speculation. Juventus have been among the clubs linked with the Argentine goalkeeper, and the collapse of PSG's Suzuki deal had complicated the Italian club's own goalkeeping plans.
Villa moving for Suzuki could therefore provide the club with either a potential long-term successor to Martínez or a high-level alternative should the Argentine leave.
For now, however, Suzuki remains a Parma player and negotiations are still ongoing.
