MOGADISHU (Dawan) – August 15, 2026 – Somalia’s disaster management agency (SoDMA) Chairman Mahmoud Moallin Abdulle held a virtual meeting with Somali diaspora representatives to discuss preparations for potential El Niño flooding, the agency said.
The meeting, attended by members of the Somali Global Diaspora (GSD), focused on strengthening early preparedness measures to reduce the potential impact of floods and other emergency situations.
Abdulle called on the Somali diaspora to contribute to disaster preparedness efforts through emergency support, public awareness campaigns and stronger cooperation with relevant institutions.

SoDMA said the engagement is part of broader efforts to strengthen cooperation between government institutions, Somali communities and the diaspora in reducing the impact of natural disasters and improving national preparedness.
