Somalia, 30 April 2026 UN aid chief Tom Fletcher toured displacement camps in Baidoa on Wednesday, warning aid needs are rising amid difficult conditions, the UN said.
Fletcher, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, met officials from South West State before visiting the Al-Berto One displacement site near Baidoa airport.
“I am determined to take the messages that I hear and the things I see, and we must turn this visit into action,” Fletcher said.
The visit comes as thousands of displaced families face shortages of food, water and healthcare, with seasonal Gu rains in some regions raising the risk of flooding.
