MOGADISHU, September 13, 2026 The Towfiiq party has been excluded from the list of parties contesting Galmudug’s election rerun, released by the electoral commission on Sunday. The vote is scheduled for September 30, 2026.
The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission announced that 12 political parties had submitted their candidate lists within the stipulated deadline. The registered parties are Justice and Unity, Madalsan, Somali Citizens, Somali Democracy, Justice and Solidarity, Somali People, Karaama, Saab, Dan Shacab, Sincad, National Youth Council and Ramaas.
Towfiiq, which participated in Galmudug’s previous election on July 30, does not appear on the new list. The commission did not explain whether the party had failed to submit its candidates or had been excluded for failing to meet other requirements.

Towfiiq filed the legal challenge that prompted Somalia’s Supreme Court to annul the election results on August 24. The court ruled that the process had not complied with the Constitution and electoral law and ordered a rerun.
The party’s absence raises questions about the renewed registration process and the criteria used to determine eligibility, particularly because Towfiiq secured the largest number of votes in the annulled election.
