Mogadishu, 13 September 2026 Somalia's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change on Sunday opened the National Climate Outlook Forum for Deyr 2026, focusing on climate services, early warning systems and preparedness for the expected impacts of El Nino.
The two-day forum opened in Mogadishu under the theme "Using Climate Services for Early Action and Strengthening Somalia's Resilience during a Strong El Nino."
The meeting will assess the impacts of previous climate seasons, particularly the Gu 2026 season, and present the climate outlook for the Deyr period, which runs from October to December 2026. It will also develop recommendations and response plans targeting vulnerable sectors.
Discussions will cover key areas including agriculture and food security, livestock, water and energy, transport, environment, disaster risk management and health.

The forum brings together decision-makers, climate experts, federal government institutions, federal member states, development partners, farmers' organizations, media representatives and academics. Around 70 to 80 participants are expected to attend.
The ministry said the expected outcomes of the forum include producing climate information tailored to community needs, developing sector-based preparedness plans for Deyr 2026, and preparing maps showing areas most vulnerable to climate-related risks.
The forum is part of Somalia's efforts to strengthen climate resilience, improve early warning systems and support timely decision-making in response to climate-related challenges.
