MOGADISHU, 13 September 2026 Somalia's ruling Justice and Solidarity Party (JSP) has selected Ali Abdullahi Hussein Gudlawe as its candidate for the Hirshabelle presidential election.
The decision was approved on Sunday during an executive committee meeting at the party's headquarters chaired by Secretary-General Hussein Sheikh Mohamud .
According to the party, the meeting focused on preparations for the anticipated one-person, one-vote elections in Hirshabelle.Gudlawe, the incumbent President of Hirshabelle, will now seek another term under the JSP banner. The party has yet to unveil his electoral platform or campaign programme.

His nomination forms part of JSP’s broader effort to expand its influence across Somalia’s federal member states. The party previously selected Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe and Liban Ahmed Hassan as its candidates for the leadership of South West and Galmudug, respectively.
Madobe won the South West election, while Liban Ahmed Hassan is still awaiting the Galmudug contest.
Gudlawe is the third candidate nominated by JSP for a federal member state presidency as political organisations prepare for upcoming regional elections.
