Somalia, July 16, 2026 – Lawmakers in Somalia's South West State on Thursday approved a 26-member cabinet proposed by leader Sheikh Aden Nur ‘Madobe’, paving the way for the new administration to begin its work.
The regional parliament endorsed the cabinet during a session in Baidoa after Madobe formally presented his nominees for approval. The cabinet consists of 26 ministers, while the new administration also includes 26 deputy ministers and three state ministers.
Following the parliamentary vote, the ministers, deputy ministers and state ministers were sworn into office by Ahmed Ali Muse, Chief Justice of the South West State Supreme Court, and pledged to carry out their duties in accordance with the law.
Addressing the session, Madobe congratulated the newly sworn-in officials and urged them to prioritise public service delivery, strengthen security, promote economic development and improve governance.

He also called on the new administration to work collectively and uphold transparency and accountability in implementing the regional government's development agenda.
The parliamentary approval comes days after Madobe announced the formation of his new government, completing one of the key constitutional steps required before the administration could formally assume its executive responsibilities.
South West State is one of Somalia's federal member states and administers the regions of Bay, Bakool and Lower Shabelle, with Baidoa serving as its interim capital.
