Mogadishu, 22 June 2026 — Somalia's Human Rights Commission of Somalia has strongly condemned a video showing a woman abused in Mogadishu that spread on social media.
The Commission stated that such acts violate human dignity, rights of citizens, as well as national laws and international human rights standards.
The Chairperson of the Commission, Dr. Maryam Qasim Ahmed, called on security and judicial institutions to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation into the incident and prosecute those involved.

The Commission also emphasized the importance of providing appropriate support to the victim and her family, while ensuring their rights and safety throughout the investigation and judicial process.
In its press statement, the Commission noted that violations against Somali women and girls remain a serious human rights concern and require a collective effort to prevent them.
The Commission urged government institutions, civil society and all stakeholders to strengthen efforts to protect women and girls and ensure that justice is served.
