MOGADISHU, November 4, 2026 - Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday dismissed two junior members of his government.
Said Mohamed Mohamud, known as Hayd, the state minister for public works, reconstruction and housing, and Fartun Abdikadir Farah, the deputy minister for ports and marine transport, were removed from their posts with effect from Wednesday, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.
The statement did not give a specific reason for the dismissals. It said Barre acted under articles 117 and 120 of the constitution and in line with principles of transparency, accountability and good governance, and to keep the work of the two ministries running smoothly.
Article 120 of Somalia’s amended constitution sets out the powers of the prime minister, including directing and holding accountable members of the cabinet. Article 117 sets out the requirements for cabinet membership.
The dismissals took effect once the prime minister signed the order, which he has done, the statement said.
