MOGADISHU, November 4, 2026 Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday received the credentials of the new Omani ambassador to Somalia, Salim bin Habib Al Umairi, the presidency said in a statement.
At a ceremony at Villa Somalia, the presidential palace in Mogadishu, Al Umairi delivered a message to the president from Oman's ruler, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said. The message expressed the Omani leadership's interest in strengthening long-standing relations between the two countries, the statement said.
Hassan Sheikh thanked the sultan for his support for the Somali people and wished the ambassador success, expressing hope that he would help strengthen brotherly relations and cooperation between Somalia and Oman.
Sultan Haitham appointed Al Umairi, a career diplomat, as Oman's ambassador to Somalia by royal decree in September. On Oct. 24, he presented a copy of his credentials to Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali.
The appointment comes as the two countries seek to strengthen ties. During a visit to Muscat by Somalia's foreign minister in April, the two sides discussed cooperation on investment, trade and food security, and Oman reaffirmed its support for Somalia's unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
