Somalia, December 29, 2025 The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Saturday held a consultative meeting with several Federal Member States leaders and the Governor of Banadir Region, focusing on safeguarding Somalia’s sovereignty and national unity.
According to an official statement, the meeting discussed measures to counter Israel's unilateral recognition of Somaliland. President Mohamud briefed the leaders on his administration's strategy to address the issue through international mechanisms.
The President stressed that protecting Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity requires collective national efforts, calling on political leaders and the public to stand together against any actions that undermine the country’s existence.

Presidents of South West, Galmudug, Hirshabelle and North East states along with the Governor of the Banadir Region, reaffirmed that Somaliland remains an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia. They warned that any attempt to legitimize secession could carry serious political and security consequences for the Horn of Africa region.
The leaders expressed full support for President Mohamud’s ongoing diplomatic engagements at both domestic and international levels.
