Kenya, December 29 2025 - Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has moved to calm public concern over his health, confirming that he is recovering well after undergoing a medical procedure following a recent illness.
In a statement issued on Sunday, December 28, the outspoken legislator said he felt it was necessary to address Kenyans directly amid growing speculation and rumours about his condition. While Owino did not disclose details of the illness or the procedure, he emphasised that his recovery is progressing positively and that he hopes to return to full parliamentary duties in the new year.
“In the spirit of openness and honesty that should guide all who serve the public, I wish to share that I recently underwent a medical procedure following an illness,” Owino said. “By God’s grace, I am now on the path to recovery, and I remain hopeful and determined to resume my public duties in the new year.”
The MP expressed gratitude for the outpouring of goodwill and concern from Kenyans, noting that the messages of support had given strength to both him and his family during what he described as a challenging period. His clarification follows days of speculation on social media and in political circles, with reports suggesting he had been hospitalised in Nairobi under unclear circumstances.
Beyond updating the public on his condition, Owino used the moment to reflect on the struggles faced by many Kenyans during the festive season. He extended his solidarity to families who spent Christmas in hospitals or away from loved ones due to illness or financial hardship.

“As I heal, my heart is especially with all Kenyans who have spent this Christmas season in hospital beds, away from their loved ones,” he said, adding that no family should be pushed into despair because of sickness or poverty. He urged citizens to remain united through compassion, faith and a shared sense of humanity.
This is not the first time the MP has addressed concerns about his health. In a brief message shared two weeks earlier, Owino acknowledged that he had been unwell but assured the public that he was recovering.
The update comes at a time when Owino remains firmly in the national spotlight. In recent months, his political profile has grown, with sections of the public and party supporters viewing him as a possible future leader within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). A recent Infotrak poll also ranked him among the most favoured figures to assume a key leadership role in the party.
