Somalia, 18 June 2026 – Somalia’s cabinet on Thursday condemned Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro’s visit to Israel, terming a violation of Somalia's integrity, the prime minister’s office said in a statement.
The cabinet said Irro’s visit to Palestinian territory under Israeli occupation violated Somalia’s constitution, international law and principles protecting the sovereignty of states and the rights of oppressed communities.
The meeting held in Mogadishu was chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre.
Somalia’s federal government has previously said any political or diplomatic engagement with Somaliland that bypasses Mogadishu violates the country’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
Somaliland said it had established new diplomatic relations with Israel and opened an embassy in Jerusalem following Irro’s visit to Israel.
