Dar es Salaam, 16 September 2026 Somali engineers are seeking stronger professional cooperation across Africa at a continental conference in Tanzania focused on sustainable infrastructure, technology and skills development.
Somali Engineers Association President Ibrahim Abdi Heyle is leading the delegation to the 12th UNESCO Africa Engineering Week and 10th African Engineering Conference, running Sept. 13-17.
The gathering at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre brings together engineers, government officials, policymakers, companies, investors, academics and development organisations from across the continent.
Held under the theme "Engineering Africa's Inclusive, Innovative and Sustainable Future," the conference is focusing on climate-resilient infrastructure, sustainable cities, artificial intelligence and smart engineering.
Delegates are also discussing renewable energy, water and natural-resource management, engineering education, professional qualifications and the movement of engineers across African countries.

Other sessions focus on expanding participation of women and young people in engineering and developing technical skills to address the continent's infrastructure challenges.
The Somali Engineers Association said the conference would allow its delegation to build partnerships, share experiences of Somali engineers and learn about emerging technologies and practices elsewhere in Africa.
Somalia needs more engineering expertise to rebuild infrastructure and expand services in energy, water, telecommunications and urban development after decades of conflict and underinvestment, the association said.
It said it remained committed to strengthening the skills of Somali engineers and expanding cooperation with professional institutions across the continent.
