Somalia, 30 April 2026 Somalia’s Barwaaqo project will tighten oversight of climate and water projects as World Bank-backed work expands, officials said Wednesday.
A five-day technical workshop bringing together experts from federal and federal member state institutions was held in Mogadishu discuss ways of strengthening monitoring systems and improving tracking of project results, officials said in a statement.
The discussions also focused on improving data quality, aligning performance indicators and addressing reporting gaps as climate resilience interventions scale up across project areas.
Participants also worked on standardising monitoring tools and enhancing analysis of project performance, the statement added.
The workshop also produced state-level action plans aimed at improving reporting systems and tracking financial and operational performance over the next six months.

The officials said stronger monitoring would help Barwaaqo project, which focuses on ecosystem restoration, rangeland rehabilitation and climate resilience, deliver measurable outcomes.
Somalia has increasingly relied on donor-backed programmes, including World Bank financing, to address climate shocks such as drought and water scarcity, which continue to affect rural communities.
