Somalia, 27 June 2026 – Somalia’s National Independent Human Rights Commission condemned the killing of civilians in Ari-Caddeeye, Sool, and Jalalaqsi, Hiran, calling for independent investigations and stronger protection for civilians.
In a statement on Saturday, the commission said at least 21 civilians, including children and elderly people, were killed in an attack in Ari-Caddeeye, while at least 10 people were killed in violence in Jalalaqsi, where civilian homes were also burned.
The commission said it was deeply concerned by the targeting of civilians, destruction of property, displacement of families and the humanitarian impact of the violence.
It said it had been closely monitoring the situations in Ari-Caddeeye and Jalalaqsi and had conducted a preliminary assessment based on available information. The commission said further investigations and consultations with relevant institutions were continuing.

“We call on all parties to immediately end the hostilities, exercise restraint and protect civilians and their property,” the commission said.
The statement followed clan-related fighting on June 20 and June 22 in Ari-Caddeeye and Jalalaqsi, which caused deaths, injuries, displacement and property destruction, raising concerns over security and the humanitarian impact of the conflicts.
