Ethiopia, 11 August 2026 – National Dialogue Commission Chair Prof. Mesfin Araya said Ethiopia’s national dialogue process has reached an advanced stage as 250 consultation groups work to consolidate proposals, SRTV Somali reported.
Prof. Mesfin said the 250 groups are reviewing and compiling agendas and recommendations ahead of the next phase, which will involve 500 groups.
Most of the 250 groups have completed their preparations, and work is expected to conclude soon on compiling ideas raised during consultations, he said.
In the next phase, the 500-member groups will conduct a deeper review of the collected proposals and prepare recommendations and outcomes for presentation to the national dialogue conference.

The commission chair said consolidating different views and reaching agreement has been difficult due to the range of debates and perspectives among participants.
He said the commission has closely monitored discussions to ensure they remain focused on issues and viewpoints, rather than on individuals or specific groups.
Prof. Mesfin said tensions around the debates have eased following these efforts, and that the process is now moving toward greater understanding and consensus.
Ethiopia’s National Dialogue is expected to produce recommendations on key national issues as part of efforts to develop a shared vision involving different sections of society.
