Somalia, 21 April 2026 Somalia launched an agri-tech expo in Mogadishu to boost food production with new farm tools and technology.
The expo held at the Agriculture and Irrigation Ministry headquarters was opened by the Agriculture Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir ‘Maareeye’ who said that advancing agricultural technology is key to economic growth and reducing reliance on food imports.
The event features modern tools and technologies aimed at increasing productivity, improving crop quality, and enhancing the efficiency of farming methods. Farmers and agricultural cooperatives from Mogadishu and across the regions attended the exhibition, gaining exposure to new technologies that can support agricultural development.

Officials from the Ministry said the exhibition also strengthens collaboration between farmers, agricultural equipment companies, and financial institutions, creating a sustainable support system to help farmers access modern tools.
During the exhibition, the Agriculture Ministry, together with lending institutions and agricultural equipment companies, jointly launched a new financing program that allows farmers to acquire equipment through installment payments. The initiative is expected to boost production and accelerate the development of the agriculture sector.
The government said the initiative is part of broader plans to promote innovation, support Somali farmers, and enhance production in order to achieve food self-sufficiency.
