MARMARSA, Ethiopia, September 24, 2026 Ethiopia’s Somali Region has broken ground on a 1.5 billion birr ($9.2 million) administrative office in Marmarsa, in the Siti region, Vice President Ibrahim Osman Farah said at a ceremony on Wednesday.
Regional officials also laid the foundation stone for a football stadium in Shinile. Farah said the projects were intended to address local demand for public facilities and support the growth of towns in Siti region.
Farah said the regional government planned to allocate 20 billion birr to urban development this year. He pointed to the addition of 25 municipal administrations as part of efforts to bring services closer to residents.

During the visit, officials inspected work on a road linking Marmarsa and Shinile. Farah said construction had progressed since the road project was launched about two months ago. They also visited a centre designed to provide several public services in one location.
Farah urged Marmarsa’s administration to make land available for industry and support existing businesses, describing industrial development as a priority for the town’s economy.
