MOGADISHU, 8 November 2026 — Former Somali Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire accused the federal government of removing nearly 10,000 soldiers from the military payroll, including children of Somali National Army soldiers who had died defending the country.
Khaire made the allegations at a news conference held by the National Salvation Forum on Sunday. He claimed the move was intended to channel funds to people he described as close to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
"Nearly 10,000 soldiers were removed from the military payroll," Khaire said. He added that children of fallen soldiers had also been taken off the payroll.
Khaire's allegations, including the number of soldiers he said were affected, have not been independently verified.
