Somalia, 29 April 2026 Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the United Nations’ humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher discussed threats to progress from droughts, floods, conflict and funding cuts, Fletcher said Tuesday.
Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, said global factors, including rising prices and supply shortages linked to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, were also discussed at the meeting.
“We discussed serious threats to potential progress, including droughts, floods, conflict and funding cuts,” Fletcher said in a post on X on Tuesday.

The meeting comes as Somalia faces recurring humanitarian challenges, with aid agencies warning that funding shortfalls are affecting response efforts.
Officials said the talks also addressed ways to strengthen cooperation between the Somali government and international partners.
