Somalia, 27 December 2025 Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held an urgent phone consultation today with regional leaders to discuss Israel’s recognition of Somaliland.
The talks focused on Somalia’s sovereignty, peacebuilding process and regional security threats.
The President spoke on the phone with Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh, Kenya’s President William Ruto, Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni. The leaders expressed strong, unified support for Somalia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity.
They stated that any recognition contrary to the territorial integrity of a UN member state is a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, the African Union’s principles of territorial unity, and international laws governing relations between states.

The presidency stated that Somalia will continue its international consultations and efforts, aiming to strengthen necessary actions across legal, diplomatic, and international policy channels to defend Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The regional organizations to which these countries belong have issued joint statements condemning Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, labeling it an unlawful act that contradicts international norms.
