Mogadishu, (Dawan Africa) July 29, 2026 — President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud discussed plans to build a new port in Mogadishu with the Minister of Ports and Marine Transport and the General Manager of Mogadishu Port, according to a statement from Villa Somalia.
The meeting followed a working visit to the city’s international port. Officials briefed the President on the port’s current condition, ongoing development projects, and the proposal for a new facility to meet the capital’s growing maritime needs.
Ahead of the meeting, the President inspected fuel storage facilities, warehouses, and newly constructed port administration offices. He also reviewed efforts to modernize port services and critical infrastructure.

The statement said the President emphasized that port development is vital for economic growth, trade expansion, job creation, and strengthening Somalia’s links with international markets.
Mogadishu Port is one of the Federal Government’s largest sources of domestic revenue. The President urged the Ministry of Ports and port authorities to accelerate improvements to services and advance plans for a modern new port.
