Somalia, 16 December 2025 — Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, has praised the enduring friendship between Somalia and China during a ceremony marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, held in Mogadishu on Monday.
Addressing the event, Prime Minister Hamza highlighted the historical significance of more than six decades of bilateral ties, describing the relationship as one rooted in mutual respect, respect for sovereignty, understanding, and win-win cooperation.
He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1960, Somalia and China have stood together through various regional and global transformations. The Prime Minister said China has consistently remained a reliable partner, supporting Somalia’s national priorities during different phases of its modern history.

Prime Minister Hamza also welcomed China’s recent announcement of one million US dollars in humanitarian assistance to support Somali communities affected by drought. He described the pledge as a clear demonstration of genuine solidarity and a reflection of the depth of the bilateral friendship.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Somali Council of Ministers, diplomats accredited to Somalia, and other invited guests, underscoring the importance both sides attach to the long-standing relationship between Mogadishu and Beijing.
