Somalia, 21 April 2026 – Somalia’s NISA said more than 30 Al-Shabab fighters were killed in planned operations in Middle Shabelle.
In a statement on Tuesday, the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said the operations were carried out in Guulane area, where forces, working with international partners, targeted locations used by the group.
The agency said over 33 fighters were killed during the operations, which also destroyed explosive-laden vehicles and compounds used by the group to coordinate attacks.
Initial raids focused on houses sheltering senior members and militia fighters, where at least 15 militants were killed and facilities used for planning operations were destroyed, according to the statement.

Follow-up strikes targeting reinforcements arriving in the area killed more than 18 additional fighters, while vehicles used for transporting explosives and fighters were also destroyed, NISA said.
The operations come days after security agencies reported that around 90 militants had gathered in the area, prompting pre-emptive action aimed at preventing planned attacks.
Somalia has intensified military and intelligence operations against the group in recent months, with authorities saying the campaign is aimed at weakening its operational capacity.
