Ali Sabeh, 5 September 2026 Djibouti's ruling People's Rally for Progress (RPP) is holding a three-day political retreat in Ali Sabieh to discuss the party's future, its relationship with the public and political challenges facing the country.
The retreat, running Sept. 3-5, is being held under the theme: "What kind of party in the face of new challenges and national, regional and global issues?"
RPP Secretary-General Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh participated in the discussions, with the second day focusing on strengthening ties between the party and the public, according to the Djibouti News Agency (ADI).
The discussions emphasized maintaining regular contact with citizens so that concerns from different regions can be conveyed to political and administrative authorities.
Participants said sustained dialogue could help authorities better understand community needs and improve the effectiveness of the government's response.

The retreat also addressed coordination between the party, government and administration, focusing on information-sharing, field visits and institutional cooperation.
"The party must remain in regular contact with the public," participants said, calling for stronger mechanisms to ensure the party's direction remains aligned with realities on the ground.
The second day concluded with recommendations building on discussions held during the first day.
The final session on Saturday is focusing on the history of the RPP, an assessment of its political performance and prioritization of recommendations. Participants will also decide on measures considered necessary following the meeting.
The retreat comes a few months after President Ismail Omar Guelleh was re-elected, with the RPP and its allies having led the country since independence.
