MOGADISHU (Dawan) – September 5, 2026 – Somalia’s Federal Government and opposition representatives are expected to sign an agreement within days to establish the Democratic Transition Task Force (DTT), according to Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud, who represents the Nabadda iyo Nolol political group in the talks.
In a statement shared on X, Mohamud said the parties were close to finalising the agreement. However, he did not reveal the specific issues already agreed upon, the remaining points of disagreement or the date scheduled for the signing ceremony.
The proposed task force is expected to support Somalia’s democratic transition and electoral process. Details regarding its membership, responsibilities and duration have not yet been officially announced.
The expected agreement comes amid continued political disagreements and concerns over the country’s security situation. Mohamud called on all sides to avoid violence and protect the political process to ensure the agreement achieves its intended purpose.

His remarks followed an attack on the residence of General Mahad Abdirahman “Shub” in Doolow, which reportedly left five civilians injured. Mohamud questioned whether the incident was aimed at disrupting political discussions and preventing progress toward the agreement, while the government has denied involvement.
He said political disputes should not be addressed through violence, calling for the protection of dialogue and the political process as discussions continue.
The Federal Government of Somalia has not yet issued an official statement on the expected signing date, the composition of the proposed task force or claims linking the Doolow incident to the ongoing political talks.
