Somalia, 14 June 2026 – Somalia’s Defence Ministry on Sunday said Somali security forces killed 14 Al Shabaab fighters during an operation in Kurtunwaarey district in the Lower Shabelle region.
The ministry said the operation targeted locations where Al Shabaab commanders and fighters were present.
During the operation, security forces also destroyed a weapons cache, explosives and other materials the group used to prepare and carry out attacks against civilians, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry did not give further details on when the operation took place or whether there were casualties among government forces.
It said the operation was part of continuing military efforts to remove Al Shabaab from areas where the group remains active.
The Defence Ministry and the Somali National Army command said the operations will continue to strengthen security and stability across the country.
