Spain, 27 July 2026 - Real Madrid have reached an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig to sign highly rated Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande in a deal worth more than €100 million, bringing an end to one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer.
The agreement comes just days after Leipzig rejected Madrid's opening offer of €90 million plus €10 million in add-ons, insisting the package fell short of their valuation. Following fresh negotiations over the weekend, the two clubs have now agreed on an improved fee exceeding the €100 million mark, with the remaining paperwork and formalities expected to be completed next week.
One of the key developments in the negotiations was the player's decision to prioritize a move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Paris Saint-Germain had been strong contenders throughout the transfer window and had reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Diomande earlier in the summer. However, the French champions were unable to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig over the transfer fee.
Once Real Madrid entered the race, Diomande informed interested clubs that he wanted to join the Spanish giants, prompting PSG to withdraw from negotiations.
Real Madrid's pursuit accelerated after their initial proposal was rejected.
The opening bid, valued at €100 million through a combination of fixed payment and bonuses, was turned down by Leipzig, who remained firm in their valuation of one of Europe's brightest young talents.
Rather than walking away, Madrid returned with an improved financial package that satisfied Leipzig's demands.
Although the precise payment structure has not yet been disclosed, multiple reports indicate the total package exceeds €100 million, making Diomande one of the most expensive signings in Real Madrid's history.
Diomande's rise has been one of football's most remarkable stories.
Born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, the winger moved to the United States as a youngster before developing at the DME Academy in Florida. After a brief spell with Leganés, he joined RB Leipzig in 2025 for around €20 million.
His impact in Germany was immediate.
During the 2025–26 Bundesliga season, Diomande scored 12 league goals and 13 goals in 35 appearances across all competition, quickly establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga's most exciting attacking players.
Diomande's value soared even further following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Representing Ivory Coast, he emerged as one of the tournament's breakout stars, helping his country reach the knockout stages while showcasing his pace, creativity and fearless attacking style against some of the world's strongest teams.
His performances attracted interest from several European heavyweights, including Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, before Real Madrid moved decisively to secure his signature.
