Somalia, 10 June 2026 – Police in Somalia’s Bay region said they will impose a curfew in Baidoa on June 10 as lawmakers prepare to elect the president of South West State.
In a statement on Tuesday night, the police command said all vehicle and pedestrian movement in the city would be restricted on election day as part of measures to secure the vote and maintain public safety.
The restrictions will not apply to security forces, government officials, emergency response vehicles and designated buses prepared for people travelling out of the city, police said.
Police said emergency medical support would be available for residents who may need urgent assistance during the curfew. Residents were advised to contact nearby security officers, district administration officials or police personnel in their area in case of emergencies.
