Somalia, 4 June 2026 – Security agencies in Somalia’s capital said an operation neared completion against militias accused of firing mortars into parts of Mogadishu.
A statement issued on Thursday by the Banadir Regional Police Commander, Mahdi Omar Mumin, said the operation was a large-scale security action being carried out by security agencies in the capital.
The statement said the armed militias were located in areas occupied by individuals it described as “spoilers claiming to be politicians”, whom it accused of organising the incidents.
“The public is informed that there are no peaceful demonstrations, but rather an armed incident that security agencies are working to end,” the statement said.
