Addis Ababa, 2 September 2026 Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services and the Ethio-Djibouti Railway have pledged to strengthen cooperation to accelerate movement of imports and exports along the Ethiopia-Djibouti corridor.
The commitment was announced at a logistics forum jointly organized by the two institutions Aug. 31. The partnership focuses on integrating maritime and inland transport to ensure goods arriving at the Port of Djibouti efficiently reach destinations inside Ethiopia.
Speaking at the forum, Ethiopia's State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Birhanu Tsegaye, said the two institutions play an important role in the national economy. He urged them to deepen collaboration to preserve and expand progress achieved in the logistics sector.
Birhanu also called for sustainable solutions to challenges facing the sector and adoption of modern logistics practices to improve service quality and customer satisfaction.

The two institutions outlined joint achievements during the previous fiscal year, saying coordinated operations had facilitated transportation of various types of cargo. They also reaffirmed commitment to increasing freight volumes beyond previously planned levels.
According to information presented at the forum, the collaboration has reduced the time goods remain at the Port of Djibouti, allowing customers to receive cargo more quickly and securely while avoiding additional costs.
The Ethio-Djibouti Railway, which runs on electricity, was also highlighted as an important part of efforts to develop environmentally friendly freight transport.
The Djibouti corridor is vital to Ethiopia's international trade, and stronger integration between maritime and inland logistics services is seen as a step toward supporting the country's trade needs.
