Kenya, 2 September 2026 - The Milimani High Court in Nairobi on Wednesday lifted an order revoking the licence of a matatu Sacco whose vehicle caused the death of a passenger in June 2026.
The decision offers major relief to the operators of 159 matatus plying the Thika Superhighway, with operations set to resume on Wednesday at 2pm.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) tribunal had earlier revoked the operational licence of Nicco Movers 1 Sacco.
Lady Justice Janet Mulwa lifted the order that had been issued by NTSA chairperson Dr Andrian Kamotho.
A hearing for the application has been set for September 21, 2026.

On 12 June 2026, NTSA revoked Nicco’s operating licence following the death of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student who was allegedly thrown from a moving matatu along Thika Road.
The decision came a week after 19-year-old Eugene Mutuku died from injuries sustained after he was reportedly ejected from the vehicle during a dispute.
The student later succumbed while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.
