Mogadishu, 12 September 2026 - Mogadishu Mayor Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab on Saturday launched social service projects in Xaaji Cabdi area of Gubadley district for families being resettled due to development projects in the capital.
The projects include a market, mosque, local administrative center and a Mother and Child Health (MCH) facility, according to the Banadir Regional Administration. Preparations are also underway to provide water and electricity services for the new settlement.
The launch follows an earlier plan announced by the administration to allocate land for families affected by road construction and infrastructure development projects in Mogadishu, who are being relocated to Xaaji Cabdi.

Muungaab, who is also the governor of Banadir Region, said the projects are part of efforts to ensure an organized resettlement process accompanied by essential services and sustainable infrastructure for families moving to the area.
The Banadir administration previously said more than 1,000 plots of land had been prepared for families affected by urban development projects, with essential community services planned for the new settlement.
The plan comes as Mogadishu continues to implement road construction and infrastructure projects that have affected some families living in areas where the developments are taking place.
