India, June 10, 2026 - Tech Giant Meta has announced plans to establish its first artificial intelligence-enabled data centre in India as it races towards being a leader in the AI ecosystem in key markets.
According to the company, the facility will be located in Jamnagar in the western Indian state of Gujarat and will be built by Reliance Industries and leased to Meta.
According to Meta, Reliance Industries will be required to build a data centre with 168 MW capacity, which Meta will lease, with options to scale.
According to Meta Founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the new project highlights the company’s commitment to India, which has, over the past few years, emerged as the fastest-growing technology market globally.
“We’re proud to be working with Reliance to build our first AI-enabled data center in India. This world-class facility in Jamnagar will help us scale our AI infrastructure globally while deepening our long-term investment in India’s economy,” Zuckerberg said.
The new data centre forms part of the tech giant’s efforts to expand its capacity footprint to support its technologies, services, and AI ambitions, which serve billions of people worldwide.
According to Meta, the new data centre will be powered by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater, with Meta covering the full cost of the energy and water used.
“Jamnagar is a strategic location, and Reliance is developing one of the largest data center campuses in the world there, with access to the significant energy resources needed to power advanced AI-enabled infrastructure,” Meta stated.
Meta and Reliance Industries have built a strong partnership over the years. In 2020, Meta invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms, Reliance's digital services arm, to improve connectivity and empower small business growth across India.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Limited, said that investing in technology infrastructure in India will position the country as a centre of AI revolution.
“At Reliance, we are committed to building world-class digital infrastructure that will power the next generation of AI innovation, not just for India, but for the world,” Ambani said.
