Kenya, 8 July 2026 - Residents of Kuria East are edging closer to accessing specialised healthcare services at their doorstep as construction of the KSh 700 million Kegonga Level 4 Hospital gathers pace, in what leaders describe as one of the constituency's most transformative public investments.
A progress report indicates that the National Government-funded project had reached 58% completion by the end of December 2025, with the contract standing at 42% of the scheduled implementation period.
Kegonga Level 4 Hospital is expected to be completed by 20 August 2026.
Once operational, the modern multi-storey facility will dramatically alter healthcare delivery in Kuria East, reducing costly referrals to Migori, Kisii and neighbouring counties while bringing advanced treatment services closer to thousands of residents.
The report shows the project will cost approximately Sh700 million, with about Sh290.8 million required to complete the first phase to a usable state. More than Sh85 million had already been paid to the contractor by the reporting date.
The hospital has been designed to offer services rarely available in the region. The ground floor will house emergency and outpatient units, consultation rooms, pharmacies, laboratories, CT scan and ultrasound facilities, operating theatres, specimen collection rooms and intensive care observation areas. Upper floors will accommodate maternity wards, neonatal intensive care units (NICU), delivery suites, postnatal wards, nurseries and staff support facilities.
Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama said the project reflects the government's commitment to ensuring residents no longer travel long distances in search of quality medical care..
"The Kegonga Level IV Hospital is a game changer for the people of Kuria East. We are determined to ensure this project is completed because quality healthcare is a basic right, not a privilege. Once operational, it will save lives, create employment opportunities and reduce the burden on families who have been forced to seek specialised treatment far from home," Kitayama said.
The legislator added that the hospital forms part of a wider development agenda aimed at transforming Kuria East through investments in roads, education and health infrastructure.

"This is the kind of development our people deserve. We shall continue working with the National Government to ensure every shilling allocated to this project delivers value for wananchi," he said.
The ambitious project is expected to strengthen maternal and child healthcare, expand emergency response capacity and improve diagnosis through modern imaging and laboratory equipment.
For many residents, the imposing structure rising above Kegonga town has become a visible symbol of a constituency steadily investing in long-term public services, with expectations high that the facility will become one of Migori County's leading referral hospitals upon completion.
Kitayama thanked President William Ruto administration for it's steadfast support to the people of Kuria East. He said they will back and vote him back to office come 2027 General Elections.
"Ruto has done a lot of good things for us in almost every critical sector. We promise to re elect him back to do even more for us and Kenyans. He is a good man and a visionary leader of smart repute. We are humbled by his servant leadership," said Kitayama.
