Mogadishu, 22 August 2026 – Local forces killed two Al Shabaab commanders in operations in Daaru-nimca and Tawakal areas of Middle Shabelle on Friday, the Ministry of Defence said.
The ministry said the forces targeted locations where Al-Shabaab fighters were hiding, killing commander Hassan Hussein Hursow, also known as Hassan Garabheere, during the operation.
Another Al-Shabaab commander identified as Abdullahi Faadhuud was also killed, according the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

The ministry said Hassan Garabheere was responsible for the group’s “zakat” (almsgiving) operations in areas including Cadcaddeey, Cadan-laxley and Daaru-nimca, which fall under Runirgood district in Middle Shabelle region.
Somalia’s Ministry of Defence praised the efforts of local forces in operations against Al-Shabaab, saying communities and security forces continue to work together to weaken the group’s capabilities.
