Kenya, June 23, 2026 - Kenya used the 2026 Africa Public Service Day celebrations to showcase a growing culture of innovation within government institutions, highlighting new technologies and digital solutions aimed at transforming service delivery and accelerating national development.
Speaking during the closing ceremony, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku described the event as a demonstration of the public sector's capacity to drive innovation, efficiency, and citizen-centered service delivery.
"Over the last two days, this venue has been transformed into a vibrant center of learning, a center of innovation, a center where collaborations are thriving, and a center where public sector excellence is exhibited," Ruku said.
The event brought together government ministries, state departments, agencies, development partners, diplomats, private sector players, and innovators who showcased solutions designed to improve public services and address development challenges.
Ruku said the exhibitions demonstrated that Kenya's public institutions possess the expertise and determination required to drive transformative change across multiple sectors.
"We have witnessed first-hand remarkable work being undertaken by different ministries, state departments, and agencies across government to improve the lives of our citizens through responsive, innovative, and citizen-centered service delivery," he said.
The celebrations were held under the theme "Enhancing Public Sector Institutions and Empowering Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships to Achieve Universal Water Availability and Sanitation by 2063."
According to the Cabinet Secretary, access to clean water and sanitation remains central to sustainable development, public health, economic growth, and human dignity.
He linked the government's affordable housing programme to broader efforts to improve access to essential services, particularly for residents of informal settlements.
"As a nation and as a government under President William Ruto, we are making the right steps in the right direction as far as access to safe water and sanitation services is concerned," Ruku said.

Among the innovations showcased was a service delivery solution developed by the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) in Embu County, which Ruku said had attracted the attention of his ministry.
"One very good example on enhancing service delivery is an innovation by Embu. As the Ministry for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, we will be collaborating with Embu to ensure this innovation is implemented so that we can serve Kenyans in a much better manner," he said.
The CS challenged government agencies to ensure that ideas and partnerships developed during the celebrations translate into practical solutions that improve the lives of citizens.
"The partnerships forged, the ideas exchanged, and lessons learned during these interactions must not end here. They should serve as a catalyst for greater collaboration and accelerated implementation of solutions that directly benefit our people," he said.
The event also highlighted Kenya's growing shift toward digital government services, automation, and technology-driven public administration as the country seeks to modernize service delivery and improve efficiency.
Observers say the innovations displayed during the celebrations reflect the government's broader digital transformation agenda, which includes digitizing public services, integrating government systems, and leveraging technology to improve transparency and accountability.
With Kenya's youthful population increasingly demanding faster and more accessible government services, innovation is expected to play an increasingly critical role in shaping the future of public administration.
As Africa Public Service Day celebrations concluded, participants called for stronger partnerships between government, private sector players, innovators, and development partners to accelerate the adoption of technologies that improve service delivery and enhance citizens' quality of life.
