Iran, 21 April 2026 – Iran on Monday accused Israel of violating Somalia’s sovereignty by appointing an ambassador to Somaliland.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the move amounted to interference in Somalia’s internal affairs and undermined its territorial integrity.
Baghaei described the appointment as a “clear violation” of international law and the United Nations Charter, adding that such actions risk destabilizing the region and deepening divisions among countries.

He also called on international organizations, including the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the African Union, to respond to what he described as unlawful actions and interference in the affairs of sovereign states.
The remarks came after Israel established diplomatic representation in Somaliland and appointed an ambassador there, a move that has drawn criticism from regional actors.
Somalia considers Somaliland part of its territory, despite the region operating with its own administration since declaring independence in 1991.
