Kenya, August 6, 2026 - Human Resource leaders in the public service have been challenged to spearhead reforms aimed at creating a more efficient, innovative and high-performing government workforce.
Speaking on the fourth day of a training programme for Directors and Heads of Human Resource Management and Development at Lake Naivasha Resort, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr Jane Kere Imbunya, said HR professionals play a critical role in transforming the public service through effective people management and leadership.
Dr Imbunya said the government remains committed to modernising the public service by adopting competency-based human resource management, promoting employee wellness, accelerating digital transformation and rolling out the Human Resource Information System (HRIS-Ke).
She noted that these reforms are intended to build a responsive and agile public service capable of meeting the country's evolving development needs.
The Principal Secretary urged the HR directors and managers to use the training to strengthen institutional capacity, embrace innovation and improve service delivery across government institutions.
She said a skilled and motivated workforce is essential to supporting the implementation of the government's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
The ongoing training brings together senior human resource officials from across the public service to strengthen leadership, improve workforce management and enhance the delivery of government services through modern human resource practices.
