Somalia, 30 June 2026 – Hirshabelle Vice President Yusuf Ahmed Hagar said 71 homes were burned in Jalalaqsi and called for urgent humanitarian assistance for residents affected by the violence.
Speaking during a visit to the district on Monday, Hagar urged the Jalalaqsi administration and local community to work together to restore stability and public services.
He said the local administration should prioritise restoring electricity and water services, which were disrupted during the violence.
Hagar also called on traditional elders, women, businesspeople and other sections of the community to cooperate with the local administration and support efforts to rebuild trust.

“We are asking the Somali government and the international community to help us address the humanitarian crisis that happened in Jalalaqsi,” Hagar said. “Seventy-one homes were burned in Jalalaqsi.”
The vice president urged the federal government to deliver emergency humanitarian assistance to the district.
His remarks came after violence in Jalalaqsi caused civilian displacement, loss of life, property destruction and concerns over the humanitarian situation in the area. Somalia’s National Independent Human Rights Commission previously said at least 10 people were killed in the violence.
