Kenya, August 14, 2026 - Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that plans are underway to disrupt a planned Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay, accusing senior government officials of organising attacks against opposition supporters.
Speaking in Naivasha, Nakuru County, on Friday, Gachagua claimed he had received information that Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga were behind plans to deploy goons to the Sunday rally.
Gachagua challenged President William Ruto to intervene, recalling the President's previous pledge that political goons would not be tolerated.
“I want to ask President William Ruto, the President did promise that goons will not be allowed anywhere in the Republic. He did promise that all goons will be arrested. So far, no arrests have been made.”
He then alleged that preparations were being made to attack people attending the Linda Mwananchi event.
“I have credible intelligence that PS Raymond Omollo and Gladys Wanga have organised on Sunday to beat people and kill people in Mwanaichi.”
Gachagua called on Ruto to stop what he described as an attempt to disrupt the opposition gathering.

“Can you instruct PS Raymond Omollo to stop organising goons to attack Linda Mwananchi in Homa Bay? Can you instruct Gladys Wanga, the person you have promised to be your running mate, to stop organising goons?”
The allegations come as Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) intensifies its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The party is currently conducting a tour of Nakuru County, with engagements in Naivasha, Gilgil and Nakuru town, as it establishes local structures and opens new offices.
The planned Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay is part of a wider opposition mobilisation drive, with political leaders increasingly taking their campaigns to the grassroots ahead of the 2027 polls.
