Kenya, 20 June 2026 - Detectives have arrested five suspects and impounded consignments of cannabis sativa in separate operations in Mombasa, Kitengela and Busia, as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations tightens the noose on narcotics trafficking.
In a statement, the DCI said the net is tightening around narcotics traffickers, with five suspects now cooling their heels in police cells after authorities intercepted consignments of cannabis sativa in the three operations.
At the Coast, detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, acting on intelligence, intercepted a lorry registration number KDL 220P.
A search of the vehicle uncovered nine sacks of cannabis sativa weighing a total of 450 kilograms with an estimated street value of Sh12,150,000 in the streets, the DCI said.
The driver, Emmanuel Ndoro, and his accomplice, Paul Ogolla, were arrested on the spot.
In Kitengela, detectives conducted a raid at Honey Pot Bar, where they recovered two bales of cannabis sativa, 16 rolls of bhang and a clear polythene zip-lock bag containing cannabis sativa.
The suspect, Catherine Nzuki, was arrested and taken into custody.
Meanwhile, in Busia County, police officers mounted an ambush at Butula Mission area and patiently waited for their target.
Their operation paid off when they flagged down a motor vehicle registration number KBR 254P.
A search of the vehicle uncovered two tightly packed sacks of cannabis sativa.
The occupants, Ibrahim Oduor Otieno and Alma Nzimi Muiya, were immediately arrested and escorted to Busia Police Station together with the recovered exhibits.
All five suspects remain in custody and are undergoing processing pending their arraignment. Meanwhile, the impounded vehicles and recovered narcotics are being detained as exhibits.
The crackdown continues as law enforcement agencies turn up the heat on drug traffickers, determined to curb the menace of narcotics trafficking in our communities, the DCI said.
The latest arrests came a day after another major bust in Nakuru, where Anti-Narcotics Unit detectives seized a cannabis haul valued at approximately Sh4.62 million.
Acting on a credible tip-off that a suspicious motor vehicle, registration number KDX 264K, was being used to transport the illicit cargo, detectives laid an ambush along the busy Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.
Moments later, the target vehicle came into view. Officers signalled the driver to stop, but instead of complying, he floored the accelerator and attempted a daring escape, triggering a high-speed pursuit towards Subukia area.
In a swift and tactical response, detectives successfully immobilised the vehicle by deflating its front tyre, forcing it to a stop and bringing the dramatic chase to an abrupt end.
Two suspects, David Wafula and Loise Akoth, were immediately arrested at the scene.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered seven bulky sacks of cannabis sativa, weighing a total of 154 kilograms, carefully concealed for transport.
The suspects are currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the recovered narcotics are being detained as exhibits.
