MOGADISHU (Dawan), 4 August 2026 – Indonesia's ambassador to Somalia, T.B.H. Witjaksono Adji visited Hormuud University on Tuesday as both sides moved to strengthen cooperation in higher education, research and cultural exchange.
The visit comes weeks after the university established the International Institute of Indonesian and African Studies in partnership with Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau and Universitas Islam Riau in Indonesia.
According to Hormuud University, discussions focused on developing the institute into a platform for academic collaboration, joint research and knowledge exchange between Indonesian and African universities.

The university said the institute is expanding its network by bringing in additional universities and academic institutions from Indonesia and across Africa, with the aim of becoming a regional hub for research, innovation and cross-cultural cooperation.
Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen educational links between Indonesia, Somalia and the wider African continent while creating new opportunities for collaborative research, faculty exchanges and institutional partnerships.
Hormuud University welcomed what it described as the ambassador's continued support for the initiative, reaffirming its commitment to expanding strategic academic cooperation between Somalia and Indonesia.
