MOGADISHU, 4 August 2026 – Somali federal lawmaker Abdirahman Ishaq Mohamed, widely known as ‘Abdow’, has announced his intention to run for the presidency, saying his political ambitions go beyond serving as a member of parliament.
Speaking in an interview with Dawan's Wakiil Bulsho Podcast, Abdow said he believes he has the leadership qualities and vision needed to lead Somalia.
"I want to become the President of Somalia. I have the ability, I have the vision, and I believe I can contribute significantly to the country's future," he said.
The lawmaker said he entered politics to serve the Somali people and that his long-term goal has always been to seek the country's highest office rather than remain in parliament.

"My ambitions are greater than being an MP. I aspire to become president. I never planned to remain a member of parliament for the rest of my political career," he said.
Abdow said that, if elected, he would prioritize reforming Somalia's justice system, strengthening state institutions and ensuring that citizens' rights are protected under the rule of law.
He also said he has received encouragement from Somalis in different parts of the country to pursue the presidency, describing the public response as a source of confidence in his political aspirations.
Abdirahman Ishaq Mohamed currently serves in Somalia's House of the People, representing HOP#185, a seat allocated to Burhakaba in the Bay region.
