Djibouti, 15 December 2025- Djibouti’s Parliament on Sunday officially began reviewing the Draft National Budget Bill for the 2026 fiscal year, a key step in setting the country’s economic direction and national priorities for the coming year.
The Finance, General Economy and Planning Committee of the National Assembly opened the session, chaired by the committee’s deputy chairperson, Charmaké Moussa Arreh. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Budget, Isman Ibrahim Robleh, accompanied by senior officials from his ministry.
During the session, committee members focused on the overall orientation of the budget, maintaining financial balance, and prioritising public expenditure.
The 2026 budget is expected to place emphasis on:
- Strengthening basic services such as healthcare, education, and water supply
- Economic infrastructure, particularly ports, transport, and energy
- Debt management and economic stabilisation
- Boosting domestic revenue mobilisation

In recent years, the Djibouti government has intensified efforts to expand the tax base, develop ports and free trade zones, and invest in strategic infrastructure—areas expected to feature prominently in the new budget.
At the conclusion of the first session, the committee announced that formal hearings with various government ministries will begin, focusing on:
- Government revenue projections
- Spending plans of each ministry
- Priority development programmes for 2026
The Djibouti government has announced that the proposed 2026 national budget stands at 153 billion Djiboutian francs (approximately $865 million), representing a 5 per cent increase compared to the 2025 budget.
The budget review comes as Djibouti continues to strengthen its strategic role in regional trade and connectivity between Asia, Africa, and Europe.
